Fiber innovation Ioncell has gained widespread attention after Finland’s First Lady Jenni Haukio wore an evening dress made of the wood-based fabric at the annual Independency Ball in December.
The idea of Ioncell was born a decade ago in research programmes that focused on ionic solvents. The possibilities of this fiber innovation were researched further in ACel programme as a part of the New Fibres ecosystem. As a result of the wide co-operation within the programme, prototypes of clothes and utility articles were succesfully created of the fiber.
